George A. Romero was a filmmaker, writer, and editor who is widely regarded as the father of the modern zombie genre thanks to his classic film "Night of the Living Dead" (1968). He went on to direct and produce a string of horror films throughout his career, cementing his legacy in the genre. Romero died in 2017 at the age of 77.
