Edgar Bergen was an American actor, comedian and radio performer known for his ventriloquism act. He was best known for his character Charlie McCarthy, a wisecracking dummy with a sophisticated personality. Bergen's career spanned over several decades, including films, television shows and numerous appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. He passed away in 1978 at the age of 75.
