Chishū Ryū (1904-1993) was a celebrated Japanese actor who appeared in over 160 films, mostly under the direction of Yasujirō Ozu. Ryū was noted for his subtle and naturalistic acting style and his ability to convey deep emotions through his performances. He was regarded as one of the greatest actors in Japanese cinema history.
