Charles White Jr. was an American artist born in 1918. He was known for his powerful and socially conscious paintings, prints, and murals that depicted African American life and struggles. His work became influential during the Civil Rights Movement, and he was recognized as a leading figure in the Black Arts Movement of the 1960s and '70s. White passed away in 1979.
