Al Freeman Jr. was an American actor, director, and educator. He was best known for his role as Elijah Muhammad in the 1977 miniseries "Roots" and for portraying police captain Ed Hall on the soap opera "One Life to Live." Freeman was also a professor of theater at Howard University. He passed away in 2012 at the age of 78.
